Actinic Keratosis

What is actinic keratosis?

This usually appears as a dry rough scaly non healing spot on the skin and is considered precancerous. Most commonly they appear on face, scalp, back of hands, lips, ears, forearms and legs. Typically these areas have the most skin damage by chronic exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays by sun or indoor tanning. Yearly skin checks are recommended by your Dermatologist.

Protect yourself to help prevent further sun damage. Seek shade and protect your skin against UV exposure every day, even when it’s cloudy, using a broad spectrum sunscreen and sun safe clothing, hats and eyewear. Avoid tanning entirely and do not get sunburned.
