Skin Conditions
Melasma
What is melasma?
Melasma is a common skin condition in which brown or gray patches appear on the skin. This ongoing condition is often associated with the fluctuation of female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Discoloration of the skin may appear during or after pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy or while taking contraception. Melasma is also triggered by excessive sun exposure.
How is it treated?
To treat this condition you should start by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF protection of 30 or higher every single day. Topical lightening agents such as hydroquinone and in house skin resurfacing treatments will diminish the look of uneven tone over time.
